How can I increase my height?

The potential for further growth depends primarily on biological age and the condition of the growth plates. In children and adolescents, long bones grow thanks to cells located in the growth plates. The rate of this process is influenced by genetic factors, hormonal balance, diet, physical activity, sleep quality, and overall health.

If a child is growing more slowly than his or her peers, he or she should be evaluated by a pediatrician or an endocrinologist. Possible causes include:

  • nutritional deficiencies,
  • chronic diseases,
  • hormonal disorders,
  • bone development abnormalities.

Treatment is effective only when it addresses the identified cause. Growth hormone is used for specific medical conditions, not as a universal solution for increasing height.

Once growth is complete and the growth plates have closed, exercises, stretching, supplements, or hormonal treatments will not lengthen the bones. Exercise and physical therapy can improve posture, mobility, and body alignment, but they do not result in a permanent increase in the anatomical length of the limbs.

How can an adult increase their height?

In adults, the only method that leads to a real, permanent increase in bone length is surgical limb lengthening. The procedure is based on distraction osteogenesis—after the bone is cut in a controlled manner, its fragments are gradually pulled apart, and new bone tissue forms in the resulting space.

Limb lengthening can be achieved using an external fixator, the LON hybrid method, or an internal telescopic nail, such as the PRECICE system. The choice of treatment and the possible range of correction depend on the patient’s limb anatomy, tissue elasticity, overall health, and the results of the evaluation.

Operational growth acceleration

Surgical limb lengthening involves lengthening the bones of the lower extremities using the principle of distraction osteogenesis. This is the body’s natural ability to produce new bone tissue in the space created between bone segments that are gradually pulled apart. This method allows for a permanent increase in leg length after the natural growth process has ended.

What does the surgery involve?

During the procedure, the surgeon performs an osteotomy, which is a controlled cut in the femur or tibia. The bone is then stabilized using a system that allows for gradual lengthening. This may be an external ring fixator, the LON hybrid method, or a telescopic intramedullary nail, such as the PRECICE system.

The PRECICE internal nail is placed in the bone canal. Its mechanism is activated by an external magnetic controller. The implant gradually extends, increasing the distance between the bone fragments without the need for a permanent external fixator.

Leg Length Discrepancy – Treatment at the Paley European Lengthening Center
A difference in the length of the lower limbs affects gait, pelvic alignment, and the distribution of load across the hips, knees, and spine. If you suspect you have leg asymmetry, the first step should be to consult an orthopedist. At the Paley European Lengthening Center, we begin treatment with a detailed assessment of the musculoskeletal system. Shorter leg—treatment using the PRECICE method One of the solutions used in […]

Limb Lengthening – Cost of the Procedure
How much does limb lengthening cost? The price of the procedure depends on the chosen method, the length of the bone being lengthened, the number of implants, and whether the treatment is performed in one or two stages. The scope of the planned care and the number of procedures required in a specific case are also important factors. According to the current price list of the Paley European Lengthening Center, the cost of bilateral femur lengthening using the PRECICE method is […]
