The Lengthening Center on “Dzień Dobry TVN”! A segment on leg lengthening was aired

Date of entry: August 27, 2026

We are proud to announce that the editorial staff of “Dzień Dobry TVN” has produced a segment in which we participated, dedicated to one of the most discussed topics in Polish orthopedics in recent years— leg-lengthening surgery. This is a tremendous honor for us and an opportunity to share reliable information with a wide audience and showcase our expertise in this field.

Until recently, this procedure was associated exclusively with the treatment of serious birth defects, but today it is increasingly being chosen by perfectly healthy people who want to improve their quality of life. We are glad that we were able to participate in this segment and share our perspective with the show’s viewers.

What is the article about?

A report that can be viewed at dziendobry.tvn.pl, covers topics such as:

  • Why are more and more men in Poland choosing to undergo this procedure,
  • What is so-called growth dysphoria and why the number of centimeters isn’t everything,
  • What does the procedure look like in practice, and what is the technique for bone lengthening using an intramedullary implant?
  • How long does it take to return to full fitness, and what does the rehabilitation process look like?

What our experts had to say in the article

As he emphasized in an interview Dr. Michał Deszczyński, M.D., orthopedic surgeon:

“Most often, patients opt for an 8-cm lengthening of the femurs. We can also lengthen the lower leg bones—that is, the lower segment—by about 5–6 cm at the same time. And if someone wants more than 8 cm—that is, between 10 and 12 cm—we have to lengthen both the femurs and the tibia at the same time.”

In turn, orthopedic surgeon Tomasz Albrewczyński explained that the decision to undergo surgery rarely stems solely from the desire to “gain” a specific number of centimeters:

“These patients are healthy people who experience height dysphoria—a condition in which the patient is dissatisfied with their height. […] It’s not about the centimeters—how tall they are—but rather about environmental factors.”

Why are we pleased to receive this award?

In Poland, leg-lengthening surgery is still often shrouded in taboo—many patients choose to undergo the procedure in secret, even from their closest family. Our participation in the segment produced by “Dzień Dobry TVN” was an opportunity for us to break this silence and present the topic in a reliable manner, based on medical knowledge and patients’ real-life experiences. We thank the program’s editorial team for the invitation and the opportunity to share our knowledge with a wider audience.

How can I increase my height?
The potential for further growth depends primarily on biological age and the condition of the growth plates. In children and adolescents, long bones grow thanks to cells located in the growth plates. The rate of this process is influenced by genetic factors, hormonal balance, diet, physical activity, sleep quality, and overall health. If a child is growing more slowly than their peers, they require a pediatric evaluation […]
